The Kempenfelt Rotary Club have hosted Colt for a Day for 14 years, but recently Club member Kirk Evans has dialed it up to an entirely different level.

The Colt for a Day charity hockey game is a chance for kids ages 6-11 to not only skate with the Barrie Colts, but to participate in a skills competition, full hockey game, and an autograph/picture session with the Colts players. Kids also receive a hockey jersey and an opportunity to enjoy lunch with the team.

All proceeds from the event are donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Barrie and other community projects. Over the past 14 years, more than $100,000 has been raised.

Kirk's efforts to enhance and expand the event, and increase fundraising resulted in sponsorship from JumpStart. To meet JumpStart's requirement of a 5-day event, under the leadership of Kirk Evans the committee worked to develop a ball hockey camp for March break. This has resulted in more volunteers, more partnerships, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of more kids.

Congratulations, Kirk! Thank you for all you do in making a difference in our community.
