Tablets, iPads and Notebooks

Tablet computers have come and gone in the past few years, but thanks to popularity of Apple’s IPAD this form of portable computing looks like it will be sticking around. With the Galaxy Tab, HP’s Slate, and Rim’s upcoming Playbook – there are going to be several solid options available to you.

And like any new technology for your business – one needs to step back from what looks “cool” and look at the entire picture including performance, security, and how does this potential technology will interact with your existing systems.

So you can get your IPAD to send email from the office, but what happens if you lose it? Can the person that finds it now read your email, and can the device be disabled remotely? (Hint: It can if you set this up first)

The Playbook will interact with a Blackberry server like any standard Blackberry device, but how is the battery life?

Other questions revolve around your existing network including VPN access – and if your potential tablet has the software available to use it? Do you have any industry specific software you need to access remotely? If your potential tablet does not support it, perhaps a tablet notebook would be a better fit.
